Life can be difficult. For some people, that can mean as little as a bad day at work or exam stress. For others it’s a life limiting illness or heartbreaking choices. About 4 months ago, my life got difficult. One day I was on top of everything and coping, the next, it had all come crashing down around me. I woke up one morning after a horrible day, feeling very sorry for myself and stumbled across this image above.
And I felt better. Only a little, and it wasn’t apparent at first, but throughout that day, I found my mind being drawn back to this quote. It gave me the opportunity to start again. The horrors of yesterday were over, and it was time to repair the damage that was done. The healing process takes a long time, but faith in yourself that you are strong enough to make it through your stormy sea is a powerful weapon.
Depression, anxiety and other such mental illnesses are very real problems, and I am in no way saying good ol’ fashioned positive thinking can fix what you’re going through – it won’t.
But remembering how strong you are as a human being will help you to pull yourself out of that struggle, to boss your way through that exam, or to assure you that the decisions you are making are the right ones, no matter how much it feels like the opposite.
It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back, so shake him off.
